During his research at the Russian observatories in Dorpat and Pulkovo, Struve observed double stars, planets and other members of the solar system, geodetic measurement and the determination of stellar parallaxes and the distribution of stars in space. In this work, he confirmed Olbers's hypothesis that interstellar space is not completely empty and transparent and determined the valuation of the obscuration effect in outer space.
