Universität Wien, (zuletzte Auktualisert August 2024). - Japanese hanging scroll with "Hannya shingo".The Heart Sutra, known in Japanese as Hannya shingy?, actually refers to the ‘heart’ of the Sutra of Supreme Wisdom (Prajñ?p?ramit? s?tra); it is, therefore, a kind of abridged version of a longer s?tra. The most famous line in both versions is ‘Form is not separate from emptiness; emptiness is not separate from form.’ The Heart Sutra is thus a prime example of the Buddhist philosophy of emptiness (??nyat?), which holds that all phenomena of the visible world are subsumed within emptiness and that all dualisms are ultimately illusions.
